Pills

Painting

Part of my 20th Century Vintage Ladies "HATS" Collection.

I had sooo many Jackie O - type pillbox hats it was a bit overwhelming as to what to do with them all. As you can see, this painting was an outgrowth of simply stacking these colorful beauties (gently of course) in every way possible. The result: "Pills" - I could only stack them so high before they would start to topple; then I imagined the stack continuing upward. The sky was a perfect backdrop for this playful piece. My husband said it looked like "Jack and the Beanstalk." He was right! I don't know what I was thinking when I created this but it was definately thinking "outside the box" for me and turned out to be a hoot to paint! To get the most out of this painting when hanging on the wall, the bottom-most hat should be at eye-level (rather than the conventional centered venue) thereby REALLY offering a dramatic view into the heights!
